Paper Rabbits

A cute little polygon rabbit that was super easy to put together.

I recently rediscovered the Canon Creative Park Paper Craft pages with the help of a friend of mine. These are mostly fairly simple paper crafts that you can download for free. There are many different things available, from more bendy models to the regular polygon types but also post cards, moving toys and other art. I also found a set of stacking animals that is absolutely great and I am planning to make at some point.

I looked for a bunny that I thought a colleague would really like, and managed to find a polygon rabbit. So I printed it out and left it in the corner for a few weeks. Spurred on by the plan to have lunch, I decided to get going and actually cut and stick the creature together the night before. While the instructions were slightly different to other paper crafts I’ve done – no numbers but coloured dots – it went very smoothly.

The end result is a pretty sweet, two-toned standing rabbit. What I appreciate a lot about this specific pattern is that it instructs you to cut a hole in the bottom piece. This makes it so much easier to stick the last few bits together as you can just get your fingers in. The paper I used was 160 grams, but not the suggested Canon photo paper. This worked just fine, though. I look forward to making more of the Canon patterns as they have so many lovely ones available.

Baby Rabbit

I was browsing the internet recently and came across the cutest little rabbit: here. It was posted by From Britain with love as a free Easter bunny pattern. Of course I decided that I needed to make it a.s.a.p. So on Monday night, I started knitting. I finished knitting the body late Monday night, then on Tuesday I knit the legs and arms and went out to get eyes. On Wednesday I finally put it all together, notes here.

The instructions were a little hard to follow at times but knitting it was fun. Always nice to finish a knitting project so quickly. I think the finished project is really quite cute although I had a hard time getting the head to be the way I wanted it to. Tip for next time is also to not push the eye backs in as far as they can go. They should have a little more space.

I probably pushed my arm a little too far by knitting the entire body in one night, and I really should pay more attention to myself. It didn’t hurt excessively, but it was a little uncomfortable.

Mini Bunny

Sometimes you just really want to do a quick project. So about one episode of Castle ago, I cast on a little bunny. It’s 15 stitches wide and knit in stockinette to a square. Using the Bunnies from a square pattern, I knit up a tiny bunny. I’m claiming it is for Easter, but I just wanted to try out the pattern.

It’s quite cute, and it was a really quick project so that was nice. Who knows, he might get a family in the next few days…

Warm and Cosy Bunnies Hat

This year I went on an organized five day sailing holiday in September. Since I don’t particularly like travelling, find food scary and am not necessarily a fan of meeting new people that I cannot escape, this was a huge personal accomplishment. The water and the boat were very enjoyable but after a while, I really wanted to knit. Now, I hadn’t brought any knitting, because I probably shouldn’t knit with a crappy arm. However, I decided against being smart and bought a ball of yarn and a set of needles and started knitting a hat.

Now, a simple hat would also be boring, so I decided to add a feature. The feature would be two cable bunnies that I found on the Studio Knit website. I wanted them to mirror each other, so I figured out how to do that. Now, the project wasn’t finished on the boat, but I did finish it. There wasn’t really a hat pattern that I used since I just started knitting. At the end the back needed some pleating, so I pulled the bottom together at the back to create some pleating.

A friend of mine had her birthday, but I couldn’t make it to the party. She has two bunnies, so I figured the hat would be a good fit. It was sent via the post and it did arrive (always a bit scary). She said she liked it, but even if she doesn’t I had a good time knitting it.
