Mending

Although I have done some sewing in the past weeks, it’s mostly been mending and clearing up. The lessons from MMM have been executed in way of changing a snap into a hook and eye:

Admittedly, I figured  that that was quite well done, I actually did something. I’m also making a test version of a vintage pattern from an old bedsheet (I feel so bloggy when I say that..). It was supposed to be done for the final Rock & Roll dance class I had, however, I got a cold that week and was feeling miserable, so I didn’t finish it. I hope to be able to do that soon. I do like the look of it at present. I hope to get some more crafting in after I finish my Master degree (hopefully in 2 weeks!).. Wish me luck with finalising my thesis.

Mending

The floor of the building I used to work on my thesis in got moved to a new floor in another building. This meant that all the items on said floor had to be tagged and labeled and decided to either be kept or thrown out. I had been sitting on the same chair for 5 weeks and really liked it. It however had a hole in the front:

And it was already quite old. So I asked the ladies of the secretariat whether they were planning on taking it to the new floor, and if not, I would like to take it home. They said I could take it as it was broken already, so I took it home. This involved some rolling around and storing it at a friend and eventually, a week later, I managed to move my chair from Utrecht, by bus, train and car to my home. It still had the hole, so I decided to fix that with a patch. It’s not pretty but it does the job.

Pants

I don’t remember when exactly but I made really nice (or at least that was what I thought) red/brown pants last year or the year before. I was happy wearing them the next day, and playing around with super glue. You understand that that obviously went wrong. I had a really nice super glue stain on my beautiful pants, close to the knee. It dried up much darker and wouldn’t come out so I did not ware those pants very often. Now I’ve finally ‘fixed’ it.

I made to additional seams in the legs of the pants to cover the stain inside. Which worked! I also reinserted the zipper and made it smaller. I’m quite happy again with it, no more stains! Now only to make sure that when using super glue, always wear something you can trow away if you get the glue on it. I’ll take a picture soon.

I’ve also agreed with myself that I’m going to try and get more out of my self made items, by wearing at least one thing I’ve made (or altered in the case when I really can’t find anything), when I go to school. I go to school 3 times per week so that should help get the rotation going. Eventually I might be able to increase it to every day, but we’ll see about that when the time comes.

Mending

I did it, I mended stuff. 2,5 things. A 5 cm seam, a 5 cm gather and a bit in my coat. Results! I also finished by black & purple dress but I don’t have nice pictures yet so that’ll come later. My little bolero had a seam that was sort of coming apart, not yet a rip but not fully secure anymore. Half a second later, finished. Proof (left is always before, right after):

And half of my jacket, I didn’t do the pocket yet, but I did do the sleeve. Too bad I couldn’t find the right colour, but I was eager to get something done so I didn’t really care, still don’t.
